Is Breakfast Really the Most Important Meal of the Day?
If you’ve never heard that the all-mighty breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I don’t know what planet you live on! The idea of breakfast is thrown about like day won’t go on without it and you certainly can’t lose weight if you dare to skip it. Now, although breakfast is by far my favorite meal of the day, I thought it was about time to set the facts straight. Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day? Let’s find out.
What’s so good about eating breakfast?

- Reduce cortisol levels that are naturally highest after we wake

- Increases strength and endurance to benefit physical performance
- Reduces the risk of developing type II diabetes and heart disease

What happens if I skip breakfast?
- Low blood sugar can make you feel hungry, angry and tired
- Your metabolism slows
- You may feel more stressed as your cortisol stays high
- You might be more likely to overeat later in the day
Can skipping breakfast help me to lose weight?
Wanting to lose weight is the most common reason that people skip breakfast. However, studies don’t indicate that skipping breakfast is a good weight loss strategy. Some even found that not eating caused participants to eat more calories at lunch while slowing down their metabolisms leading to weight gain. But, skipping breakfast doesn’t necessarily cause weight gain either. In short, weight gain or loss depends on other factors as well.
Is it ever ok to skip breakfast?
Although there’s benefits of eating breakfast, if you find yourself having to force food down first thing in the morning, skipping it isn’t necessarily bad. Instead, have something small or keep a snack on hand for when you do feel hungry. However, if you are hungry and you’re simply trying to reduce calories, do eat breakfast! Just keep it healthy.
So, is breakfast really the most important meal of the day?
Breakfast isn’t the be all and end all of healthy eating.
Just listen to your body, fuel it with balanced nutrition.
What’s the best thing to eat for breakfast?
Always try balance your breakfast with lean protein, some slow-release carbohydrates and a small portion of healthy fats. Doing so will give your body energy while keeping you full and satisfied. If you can throw some nutrient rich fruit and/or veggies in there too, go for it too!
What if I’m too busy for breakfast?
